Weave 4.0 Roadmap and Announcement!
Effective January 1, 2024, we will introduce a new Weave Runtime Fee that’s based on game installs. We will also add cloud-based asset storage, Weave DevOps (WevOps) tools, and AI at runtime at no extra cost to WeaveZZT subscription plans this November.
Hello! Along with a preview of Weave 4.0, we have a very exciting announcement! As many of you know, the WeaveZZT Engine is in fact two substantial software components – the LOOM Editor suite and the Weave Runtime. The Weave Runtime is code that executes in an emulator or on a DOS machine and makes WeaveZZT games work at scale, with tens of monthly downloads.
We at Mean Girls Games are introducing a Weave Runtime Fee that is based upon each time a qualifying game is downloaded by an end user. We chose this because each time a game is downloaded, the Weave Runtime is also installed. Also we believe that an initial install-based fee allows creators to keep paying forever, also because why not.
Thresholds for revenue and installs
Games qualify for the Weave Runtime Fee after two criteria have been met: 1) the game makes use of a minimum of two (2) purple keys, with discounts available for the standard five-key milieu and 2) the game has been downloaded by at least one person in the last 12 months. We set these nigh-unreachable high standards to avoid impacting those who have yet to find scale, meaning they don’t need to pay the fee until we learn of their existence.
Flexibility and discounts for WeaveZZT Personal, WeavePro, and Wenterprive
With this new policy, as of January 1, 2024, we will offer WeaveZZT Personal to anyone regardless of how big a ZZTer they are to provide more flexibility in how creators manage their experiences. Once a game passes the two tests listed above, the studio would pay a small flat fee per purple key for each install (see the table below).
To adjust for scale, WeavePro and Wenterprive subscribers will be eligible for volume discounts that rapidly reduce the per-install cost of the Weave Runtime Fee. This means that in addition to other benefits, the cost of WeavePro and Wenterprive licenses can be offset by the savings as the game grows.
Finally, we structured our fees so that they take into account the variability of game monetization between more established regions like North America and Europe versus emerging gaming regions such as India. A breakdown of the pricing and discount structure is below. See the FAQ for additional details.

Fee reduction for use of Weave and MGG services
Qualifying customers may be eligible for credits toward the Weave Runtime Fee based on the adoption of Weave and MGG services beyond the LOOM Editor, such as MGG Gaming Services or MGG studio partnership/subsidiary membership. This program enables MGG to succeed across the entire game lifecycle. Please reach out to MGG to learn more.
New services and tools. No seat price changes.
This November, we will update some of the WeaveZZT subscription plans to add extra value. New capabilities include better collaboration (WevOps), cloud-based asset management (Bobbin, formerly Weave Asset Manager), role and access controls (Team Administration), and the ability to add AI functionality at runtime (GloriaAI). These new tools and services will come with no increase in seat prices as we continue to help creators adapt to the growing complexity of game development. Here’s a breakdown:
- All WeaveZZT plans will get GloriaAI, which enables you to embed a running AI model in the Weave Runtime, inside your game or application, without needing to pay additional cloud-compute costs or introducing latency.
- WeaveZZT Personal will include Bobbin (formerly the Weave Asset Manager) free tier (10KB storage total), a maximum of 3 WevOps seats featuring 5 stats of storage and 200 /i operations at cycle 1, as well as Team Administration base roles.
- WeavePro will include the Bobbin at 50KB of storage per seat, pooled for a team to share, along with an equal number of WevOps seats featuring 5 stats of storage and 200 /i operations at cycle 1. Team Administration tools to manage access will also be included.
- Wenterprive will include Bobbin at 120KB of storage per seat, pooled for a team to share, along with an equal number of WevOps seats with 5 stats of storage and 200 /i operations at cycle 1. Team Administration tools, including custom roles, SSO, Presidents, Super Presidents, and Super Duper Presidents, provide a higher degree of control.
Finally, WeaveZZT++ is being retired for new subscribers effective today, September 12, 2023, to simplify the number of plans we offer. Existing subscribers do not need to take immediate action and will receive an email mid-October with an offer to upgrade to WeavePro, for one year, at the current WeaveZZT++ price.
